Brian Wiley
Founder of Terrain Park Smart, LLC (TerrainParkSmart.com and SkiMountainSafety.com)
I first worked in the ski industry in the early nineties beginning as a lift operator
in the Tahoe area followed by a position as a ski patroller in Colorado. After
graduating from Cal State University, Bakersfield, I started a financial planning
business in Bakersfield, CA. Although my business did well, my heart was still in
the mountains. In 2003, with a group of friends, I negotiated the purchase of a
small ski area in So. Cal. called Shirley Meadows. On weekends, holidays, and nights,
I led the rehabilitation of the resort. From ski patrol, rentals, marketing, guest
services, mountain operations, planning, etc., I had my hands in all aspects of the
business. In 2006, the area was renamed Alta Sierra Ski Area.
Following the sale of the financial planning business in 2009, I regrettably
left the ski area partnership to move to Boise to focus on my family while being
closer to the heart of the winter resort industry. Continuing as a NSAA member,
I now focus on doing my part to promote and protect the ski industry. I volunteer
at Bogus Basin and work with management to help them continue to succeed. My 9 year
old son Cooper, is a development ski team member with the Bogus Basin Ski Education
Foundation (BBSEF), where I also volunteer much of my time. Working with Bogus Basin,
Terrain Park Smart is helping me stay involved with the ski industry and promoting
guest responsibility through education. I am excited to present this education tool
to resorts.
